How did those stationary lunges work out for you last week!? The funny thing is, I feel like I’ve been lunging since the beginning of time but I’ve have been doing it all wrong! No matter how many you do, if you have the wrong form your results will never be the way you’re wanting them to be. Using the tools that Shay Green Fitness provided last week really helped me to get the most out of my lunge. I watched the video several times to make sure I was getting it right (read: I watched the video several times because the “helper” Shay picked to demonstrate the exercises was kind of cute).
This week, we’re in for an all new challenge as Shay introduces us to the Goblet Squat! The cool thing about this leg exercise is that you are actually also generating some results for your core as well, but only if your execution is on point. Heck, it can pretty much build muscle in your entire body due to the anabolic environment that is created which results in body muscle building. So, not only are you building lower body strength but you are also improving your upper body as well. Win win, huh?!
It’s no secret how influential the squat is for toning the legs and glutes. The Goblet Squat is an excellent option to vary the traditional barbell squat.
1. Holding the weight directly in front of the body, place the feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart.
2. Distributing the weight into the heels of the feet, bend the knees and lower the body into a squat position. Test your form by trying to lift your toes through the entire movement. Be careful not to shift your weight forward. Make sure the knees are over the ankles and not over the toes.
3. Squeezing the legs and glutes, slowly come back up into a standing position. Perform 3 sets with 15 repetitions.
