My Toddler Is An Unstable Creature: Conquering Picky Eaters
That quote pretty much sums up the last couple of months of motherhood. I’m learning that it is all about picking my battles and realizing that the best part of being a parent is actually enjoying the experience, which can only be accomplished when you accept the fact that everything isn’t going to happen exactly how you want it to.
Toddlers are unstable creatures. Yup, I said it, and yes - it’s true. They are at a phase where they are trying to express their newfound independence and the easiest way for them to do that is to decide what they are and aren’t going to eat. Sometimes, it’s a struggle to get them to eat at all. That’s the thing, though - kids will not starve and by continuously offering them a variety of foods, they will learn to be more flexible. Yes, it may be easier to make that go-to PB&J that you KNOW your mini will love BUT what happens when they burn out on that? Exactly.
Just because they did not like it the first time around, keep trying and make sure you are practicing what you preach. Enjoy your meal as a family and let your mini see the rest of the household enjoying the foods that you are trying to get them to buy into. Get creative and, if all else fails, throw a meal in a blender and make it a smoothie!
Finally, for those parents that are fighting your mini’s new interest in gravity (tossing food is a no-no) I suggest you try the Nuby Sure Grip Miracle Mat. That sucker is super hard to move for my mini. For me, it’s really easy to clean and is a regular in my household. It has built in suction that seals to table tops and makes the whole feeding process a heck of alot easier! The Nuby Miracle Mat is coming this summer to Babies R Us and Amazon!
