Murphy Half 10K and 5K Recap

“Come what may, I want to run.” 2 Samuel 18:23, this scripture states whats in every runners heart but sometimes it just doesn’t happen. Over the past months, I have been training for upcoming races and for various reasons I haven’t been able to run them. It started with the Texas Big Star which canceled due to thunderstorms and now this past weekend the Murphy Half Marathon, 10k and 5k which I decided not to run due to my Achilles injury. This was such an awesome race, and I wanted you to have a recap, so I asked my fellow AMPT running ambassador and friend Rachel Meador to recap the race. Let’s see what she has to say.

For an inaugural race, this went as smooth as a well-oiled machine! I am so proud and blessed to be a part of AMPT Running Co as a brand Ambassador.😁😁😁 My Murphy weekend started with packet pickup and a kickoff party for all the runners at Main Event. How many kickoff parties have you gone to for a race?? What an incredible and generous gesture for AMPT to treat us all!👍👍👍

Race morning started with temps in the 60s, and the sun warmed up our day just right with a light breeze. I wore my unicorn headband and got lots of compliments!🦄🦄🦄 The race course was laid perfectly with markers and signs, staffed with lots of police and city monitors, and very well stocked water stations and Plano's MRTT staffed the last water stop! There were tons of Volunteers, and I was sure to thank every one of them!!💗💗💗 I was so excited for this day and greeted everyone I saw. I was especially happy to hear Cliff, the race announcer, whom I've known since I started running races.

The race started on time and off I ran with Stephanie who had just completed a full marathon the day before at the Hachie50. If it were me, I'd still be laid up in bed having breakfast brought to me because I don't recover that fast!🤣🤣 I was feeling strong and confident maintaining a sub10 pace thru every mile! Until gravity started pulling at mile 9. 😳💩😳💩😳

⌚⌚⌚Come on mile 11; I was looking at my watch wondering how far off I was from a “PR.” Well, that potty break cost me some time, but you know when nature calls, you go!😵😵 I could hear the music and Cliff's announcements, so I knew I was close. When we hit the ramp to enter the field, I turned on the jets towards the Finish - I love running on the track!

I was so impressed with everything about the race course. I felt incredibly safe, and the roads were cleanly paved. There was some shade through the wooded trails, but most of it was on straightaway roads.

My Finish time was 2:08, and it earned me Second place in my age group! 👊👊👊The first place AG ran at 1:59, another goal of mine. But for now, placing AG is a great accomplishment!🤩🤩🤩 I'm convinced the unicorn headband sped me through to the Finish. JK!!

Oh and lest I forget to mention the post-race food!! 🤗🤗🤗 Breakfast tacos from Rusty Taco, cake bites from Nothing Bundt Cakes, tamales, runners fuel snacks, hydration drinks, and more snacks. My belly was h-a-p-p-eeee!! 👍💐👍💐A million thanks to Angela and Phil, the dynamic duo behind AMPT Running Co, the City of Murphy, all the volunteers and support staff, the Ambassadors, all the incredible race sponsors, and all the Glory to God who continues to bless us all with his grace, and mercy. 💗💗💗
