'Sweat It Out' with Hanadi Khan

It is very rare that you come across someone that just speaks to your soul.  To be able to witness that person’s growth first hand is even more awesome! Hanadi Khan is genuinely just amazing! I grew up with her in Fort Worth, Texas and never would I have imagined that she would a NQ competitor and a real yogi! Hence her nickname:  “The Bikini Yogi.”

When I started the L.Y.F.E series, she was my motivation behind it - I kid you not! All I wanted was for the entire universe to experience her amazing spirit! Hopefully, we will be able to get her featured on that portion of our site soon so she can walk #TeamFitXBrit through some amazing yoga practices. I am speaking it into existence y’all!  For now, let me help you by introducing you to this potty mouthed, weight lifting, body building yogi  and be ready to be surprised by the playlist she has put together for us.

1. Name

Hanadi Khan #thebikiniyogi

2. Age

32

3. Hometown

Funky Town, Texas aka Fort Worth

4. What is your favorite way to sweat?

Yoga and lifting heavy things.

5. How long have you been dedicated to living a #HEALTHYLIVINGLIFESTYLE?

Pretty serious for about 5 years. Took a breakup and grieving a death to change my life. I worked out prior to that but had no guidance and wasn't much a lifestyle then.

6. What is your absolute favorite workout gear brand and why?

Since I wear workout clothes more than anything else, I don't like to spend too much money on that. I get a majority of my gear from Old Navy. Good quality, fits great, and has bargains. I get my sports bras from Walmart and sometimes they have shirts that are a great steal. Both places have that wick quality to their clothing so when you sweat it pulls moisture away from the body so sweat can evaporate quickly.

7. What is your absolute favorite workout shoe and why?

Nike Pegasus. Fell in love with these shoes when I became serious with running. My feet are bit flatter so it offers more support. It's lightweight with enough cushion. Most importantly, they are comfy.

8. What motivates you to keep going on days that you don’t want to workout and or eat right?

I think about those people who can't work out. Those days that I don't want to work out are the days that I know I need it most. It shifts my body, mind, perspective. I believe that everyone should sweat at least once a day, even if it's for at least 15-20 minutes. Sweat = Medicine. It cleanses and releases toxins and negativity. You can do so much in that time. Do something that gets you moving, pumps the heart rate up, and your breath deeper. When I eat bad consistently that is when I need to ask myself, “Why am I really eating this?” Am I eating to fill a void or numb something that I'm trying to ignore? Is it fear, insecurity, sadness, etc...? I need to re-evaluate myself and my surroundings (for example, who am I hanging out with, etc.)

9. How did you come up with your playlist name?

Coming up with a name is pretty challenging. "Just Do It" Pretty much speaks for itself.

10. What songs are you rocking out to?

Honestly, my music really depends on the type of workout I'm doing. If I'm doing yoga I love listening to M83 or Explosions in the Sky. Weight training I listen to anything from Johnny Cash to Black Eyed Peas, to a little of bit of rock or metal to Drake to Skrillex, and it can keep going. I've started back cycling again. It's a great workout and it's helping rebuild my endurance which I love. I use my core for stability and it has not only helped shape my legs and glutes for my physique competitions, but it's also strength building.

The strength is built by doing intervals, which I do a lot on the bike. I base the rate of speed and degree of effort on the pace based off the tempo or beat of the song. The slower the tempo of the song, the higher degree of effort and slower the pace (strength building) to really FEEL what I'm working in my body while standing on the bike with hinged hips leaning. The higher the tempo the faster my pace (fat burning). My playlist is what I usually play while on the bike.
