A perfectly executed, well- planned meal is the secret weapon to attaining most, if not all, of your fitness goals. One of the things we hear the most is how people ultimately want to develop a well-toned and perfectly healthy body. The reality is, we live in a pretty fitness-obsessed world and meal planning is about as normal as putting on socks. The question then becomes, are you really meal planning are just “looking” like you are meal planning?

We all know that person that is highlighting the cute little meal prep containers they just purchased, or the smoothies they just prepped in their aqua blue mason jars and although it looks cute the continuous execution in order to adapt a genuine lifestyle change often times falls flat.

Weekly meal planning can significantly improve the nutrition value of your diet, help you manage your food intake, make you accountable and the best part is that it WILL save you money in the long run! We can’t say that we know anyone that does not want to have healthier food in their own lifestyle or especially in their family’s diet. The “wanting” falls short mostly due to time being the culprit. Let’s face it - everyday life is busy. The question then becomes how can we make time to prepare healthy meals despite all of the things that the week may throw at us? We’re here to help!

Incorporate 15 minute Meals For Dinner on Busy Days

When the week is extremely busy, when you know that you will be working late and out of the house and tempted to eat fast food, 15-minute meals are the way to go. I personally like to make dinners fresh each evening so I rely heavily on 15-minute and 30-minute meals. The key is to already know what you are going to eat and try to do the cutting and portioning out of ingredients on your designated meal prep day in order to make the process that much easier.

Utilize the Hell Out of Your CrockPot


I own three of these bad boys and oh what a difference they make. These come in handy when you won’t be out of the house for more than 10 hours but want to take a break from making dinner. Slow cooker meals are so amazing! You can literally throw something into the crock pot and come back 10 hours later to dinner being done. #FitChicks: 5 Ways We Strive For Balance

Let’s be honest: none of us have this figured out. So, before any of you think myself or Chan have come up with a magic balance formula allow me to save you the trouble: we haven’t. Learning how to negotiate our full-time jobs and the demands of “real life” is just as much a struggle for us as it is for you. Maintaining focus, excitement, drive, and achieving a certain level of “success” (whatever that looks like from your POV) is even more challenging when you’re building your own business from the ground up. How do you make sure you’re staying true to your vision AND stacking your coins? How do you separate professional time from personal time when the lines blur so easily? And is there really any down time for people who are running growing businesses?

We ask ourselves this constantly - it’s on a continuous loop in our minds. But, for the longest time, both of us lived in the land of worry. And, whenever we’d make the trip, you can bet one of two things happened: either we’d work ourselves to the bone and, often, get sick as a result OR we’d mess around and allow ourselves the slack off heavy all while calling it self-care. Basically, balance was not a strong suit. But, with growth comes different perspective and both of us have adopted a few things that help make our attempts at achieving balance a bit more realistic.

It’s easy to allow work to consume you, both physically and metaphorically, when you’re super caught up in just staying afloat. One thing we learned though is that setting boundaries is imperative to building a solid bridge between your present and your future. If that means you don’t take a work call or answer an email after 9pm, do it. If that means you don’t schedule meetings during a certain time of day in order to find a few minutes of peace, there is nothing wrong with that. Establishing what you will and will not allow in your space is absolutely necessary in the search for balance.

Practicing Actual Self-Care

Chan saw a quote a few weeks ago that read: “Sometimes self-care is adding a little bit more to your savings account.” This is so true! Recently, the idea of “self-care” has been more about pampering yourself than establishing a clear understanding of what you need in order to recharge and work more efficiently. Don’t get us wrong - we are firm believers in a manicure, a massage, or a Saturday Netflix binge on the couch to ease your stress. There is, however, a time when sometimes you have to do the things that you don’t necessarily want to do (i.e. putting more in your savings account so you can pay a photographer for your next blog post instead of buying that pair of sneakers) to set yourself up for a win. It feels a lot more like balance when you recognize that giving up something is really for your gain.

Like I said before, we still haven’t figured out an exact formula, but we know what has been working for us, individually, on a consistent basis.  And, truthfully, as we evolve those needs will shift.  How do you strive to attain balance? Anything you recommend? Let us know in the comments below.

Last week, we let you in on our first Trill Yoga experience with Claire Fountain (you may remember her from the Boss Chick feature we did on her not to long ago) courtesy of the Cosign Experience weekend.

Chan and I also had the opportunity to sit down and have a little one-on-one chat with the Queen of Trill herself where we talked about stress, how you carry it with you in your body, and how yoga is one way to help alleviate or reduce the amount of stress that we carry in our bodies.

This candid convo with Claire made us really think about the stress we’re holding and why. How does it happen and, most importantly, how do we de-stress our bodies and recognize when we’re starting to experience overwhelming emotions? Can you relate? So Why Do We Hold Stress In Our Bodies?

Most of the time it is done subconsciously. So many of us are just focused on making it through the day that we take things away without dealing with them and it manifests itself in ways that ultimately cause stress. Can you believe that sometimes we do it intentionally? Think of that “thing” you did, that you are ashamed of. Stress is a way of punishing ourselves for the things we have yet to forgive ourselves for. I, for one, am guilty of this at times. When you are literally “carrying” all of these negative emotions that you just do not know how to let go of and move past, you are manifesting stress and it has to live somewhere. The home inevitably becomes your body.

Here in Dallas where we live, it’s not too hard to find a good workout. Everything from cycling to bootcamps are readily available but, the one thing we don’t have (at least I’ve never been) is yoga of the TRILL variety. Lucky for us, the folks at Cosign Magazine were celebrating their anniversary with a weekend full of events and they happened to bring the trill to us.

Claire Fountain, instructor and founder of Trill Yoga, came to make us WERK here in Dallas. Last Saturday, Chan and I arrived at IQ Haus ready for a cool experience. What we didn’t realize was just how intense the hour long session with Claire would be. After the workout, we were treated to refreshing H2O provided by EarthWater and awesome gift bags courtesy of event sponsor Reebok.

Trill Yoga is definitely bringing all of the VIBES

Super deep stretches, lots of sweat, and more vinyasas than we can count were highlighted by the ebb and flow of soul-drenched SZA records, H-Town homages, and thumping TrapN’B. Basically, we kind of sort of lost focus more than once simply thanks to the impromptu jam session.

Ladies really do love Yoga

We were right on time when we walked into IQ Haus and were pleasantly surprised to see just how many women showed up and showed out for the city. The room was full! Luckily Chan and I were able to find two spots for our mat in the front corner, but, it was tremendously inspirational to see just how many women got up early that Saturday morning to show some love to their bodies and their minds. Can you guys believe that we are officially half way through 2017?! July is here. W...T...F. It seems like just yesterday we were heading into 2017 and introducing you to our January Boss Chick. Now, as we get into the thick of the summer, we think it's important to highlight some of the women who have helped champion us in these first 6 months. One such woman for Chan, is branding/marketing maven Emmelie De La Cruz.

One thing we both love about our respective platforms is getting the opportunity to interact with people who have established voices in a certain area, because - let's face it - we don't know everything. And it's imperative, at whatever business stage you are in, to recognize when you need help and be open to receiving it from someone who makes it their job to help you better yourself.

Emmelie De La Cruz is a marketing professional who, after 2 layoffs from corporate marketing positions, has found her voice in slanging no-nonsense branding strategy to millennials who are looking to build. This sassy New York native (the title of her last email blast was "Fck all this motivation man…") makes it her business to help push potential into purpose with a dose of, often, tough love.

Summer is in full swing and we know if you are anything like us, you are more than ready to start working on your tan, and just getting a little more Vitamin D. The piece of the puzzle that we know most ladies stress about is this: what swimsuits are we rocking this summer? Of course we want something that we can feel comfortable in, but more than that, sometimes you just want something that is going to enhance all of our positive assets. So, we have scoured the e-streets and Instagram pages, turned to the experts, and have found the best bathing suit styles for your body type. Now, hear us when we say there is no rule in picking a bathing suit. If you are comfortable in it then, Girl - DO YOU. But, we wouldn’t be your friends if we didn’t do OUR best to guide you in looking YOUR best. Hopefully, with the picks below, you’ll feel your best too!

If your mid-section isn’t your favorite, try taking the ruched approach to swimwear. Finding a bathing suit that shows a little skin, maybe a flattering V-neck to draw attention away from your stomach and brings the focus in on your legs, arms, and or chest area. Ruffles are a fun and flirty way to take your beach look to another level without showing too much skin.

It’s really important to focus in on your selling points which calls for monokinis and any suit that has really bold prints. A trick this body type is that the smaller your suit bottom is the more fuller your butt will look and I know most of us are looking for any trick to make our milkshake bring all of the boys to yard. Milkshake = butt, just in case you didn’t get our strategic Kelis reference.

#FitChicks: 4 Recipes You Have To Try This Summer


So, it’s June. For those of us who live in warm (read: ridiculously hot) cites two things are imperative from June - August; easy to make foods that require little to no interaction with an oven and options that are both refreshing (because, again, HOT) and healthy. Chan and I both live in Dallas which seems to have it’s very own heat index so, we’re always interested in finding options that will work for us as we battle 100+ degree temps and Saturday BBQ’s.

As we dive into the thick of summer, we thought we’d compile a few fresh and time-friendly options that you can utilize for a quick meal or to shine at the company picnic. We tapped two of our favorite food bloggers, Dixya Bhattarai of FoodPleasureandHealth.com and Bobbi Burleson of bobbiskozykitchen.com to grace us with 4 recipes that we absolutely have to try this summer. While you won’t find any burgers in this bunch, you will find options that will fill you up, are vegetarian-friendly, and even one that will cool AND satisfy your sweet tooth. Wins all around. Chopped Kale and Chickpea Salad

It’s a pretty sturdy salad that will hold up well for a couple of days, great for lunch/picnic, and you can easily customize it based on what you have in the fridge. Chopped Kale and Chickpea Salad with Tamarind Vinaigrette is naturally gluten-free/vegan/allergy-friendly but most importantly it is nutritious, delicious, and easy to assemble.

  • 4 cups chopped kale, ribs removed (I used curly kind but lacinto will work too)

  • 1.5 cups garbanzo beans, cooked (you can use the canned variety)

  • 12-15 cherry or grape tomatoes, halved

  • ¼ onion, thinly sliced

  • For the tamarind vinaigrette:

  • ¼ cup olive oil

  • ¼ cup tamarind water (see notes)

  • 1 tablespoon sweetener (honey or maple syrup to keep it vegan)

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • salt, pepper to taste


  1. In a large bowl, add chopped kale, chickpeas, tomatoes, and onion and give it a nice stir.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk olive oil, tamarind water, sweetener, garlic cloves, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.

  3. Generously pour it over the kale mix and massage it well. Let it sit in the refrigerator for half an hour or so right before serving. This allows kale to soften a little bit.


-For tamarind water: I used generous 2 tablespoon of tamarind pulp + ¼ cup warm water and let it soak for 15 minutes. Then strained the tamarind pulp and only used the tangy tamarind water.

- Depending upon what type of tamarind you use, you may have to adjust accordingly.

Sheet Pan Salmon and Asparagus

When I am putting together my meal plans there are 3 things that a recipe needs to have. #1 is flavor, who wants to eat it if it doesn’t taste good right? #2 is that it is heathy(ish), hey we all have our pasta days but keeping things in balance is the way to go, and #3 is that it is easy to make. Nobody wants to slave away in the kitchen for an hour (or more) when you have a million other things on your to-do list. That is when recipes like this come into play.

  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced

  • 1 lemon, juiced and zested

  • 1½ tablespoons plain Greek yogurt

  • 1½ tablespoons Dijon mustard

  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped plus more for garnish

  • Kosher salt

  • Freshly ground black pepper

  • 1 2-pound salmon filet

  • 1 pound thin stalk asparagus, ends trimmed

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil


  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.

  2. Spread the lemon slices out on the pan.

  3. In a small bowl, mix the lemon juice and zest, Greek yogurt and Dijon mustard together. Season with salt and pepper and 1 the fresh dill.

  4. Place the salmon on the sheet pan and season with salt and pepper. Spread sauce on evenly.

  5. In a large bowl, toss the asparagus and garlic with the olive oil, season with salt and pepper. Scatter the on the baking sheet. Season with more salt and pepper if desired.

  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until desired doneness, checking the cook time at the 10-12 minute mark.

  7. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with fresh dill and more lemon if you like.

Susie recently launched her blog Mommy and Mozi and even though the title suggests that you would get an overdose of all things parenting related, it is deeper than that. Through her storytelling you are able to connect with her despite of where you are in life and pull valuable lessons that you can either apply now or put in your pocket for later.


Her Pictures Are Worth A Thousand Words…Literally

We are definitely fans of people that make you think. Instagram has easily become a place that people turn to to get that boost of confidence for a day of “Let me drop that picture and see how many likes I can get” behavior. No judgement because we’ve all been there. But, how many times do you upload that image and genuinely hope to change a life, change a perspective, or encourage someone to genuinely love themselves? Welp, that’s a regular thing over on MommyandMozi’s Instagram. Don’t enter if you are not truly ready to grow.


Her Closet Is GOALS!

If there is one thing that we could change about Susie’s platform it would definitely be the addition of a LikeToKnow.It option because we would literally be screenshotting everything! This fashionista is always dressed to the T. Not only that but her looks are versatile, which makes her that more fierce! It doesn't stop there because little Mosaic will make you want to shout, “get it girl” at your phone!


The great thing about this series is that you never really know what or who you are going to get but know that Chan and I are constantly scouring these e-streets to bring you the gems that you may have accidentally let slide right past you. The ladies that we pick for Boss Chicks are from different walks of life and embody a boss mentality in everything they do and that’s why we rock with them!

We absolutely love celebrating women! There isn’t a day that goes by that we are not instantly motivated by someone that we encounter via life, social media, or through a good read via our favorite blogs, magazines, and books. That, for us, is pretty amazing when you think about it. For a lot of people, though, celebrating others isn’t as easy. In a world that constantly tells us to compete, as women we can easily allow jealousy, comparison, and a list of other things to get in the way of actually showing love to those people that are inspiring and motivating us.

When I first started my blog she was definitely someone that motivated me from afar. Certified yoga instructor and mommy of one, Wah teaches people at all levels how to incorporate yoga into their lifestyle via her easy to follow video she posts on her instagram account. Even while carrying a freakin tiny human she amazes us with her dedication and her strength. It’s even cuter now seeing her rock her poses with her mini in tow.

We are more so advocates of women having a healthy pregnancy and feeling their best post partum by using nutrition and a safe approach to fitness after giving their bodies the time to heal.
